![]() The quality of the cabin is a cut above past GM crossovers too, though the low roofline and acres of black or gray fabric can make it feel dark.Įverything about the Trailblazer is convenience-oriented, with an easy-to-use infotainment system that bundles in wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and plenty of available niceties like heated seats and a panoramic sunroof. Like the Mazda and Ford’s Bronco Sport, the Trailblazer offers distinctive looks and vivid colors that help it stand out from the crowd. Some, like the Kia Soul, have more cargo volume overall, but the little Chevy is highly practical. The Trailblazer’s single biggest advantage is that it offers almost midsize-SUV-like passenger space, and no other crossover this size has a back seat this big. Still, some competitors don’t offer AWD at any price. The ride is firm on pavement but harsh on dirt roads. Even with the larger engine though, many drivers will be flooring it pretty frequently, and the harder you work the engine, the worse the MPG. The base model 1.2-liter version just isn’t powerful enough but the larger 1.3-liter unit, mandatory if you select all-wheel drive (AWD) or one of the higher trims, does much better. Though it drives pleasantly, the Trailblazer’s tiny three-cylinder engines (there are two) aren’t ver powerful. Chevrolet has made almost no changes to the tiny Trailblazer for 2023, but its muscular styling is enhanced by some cool new colors like Nitro Yellow Metallic. It competes with smaller machines like the Hyundai Kona and Kia Soul, but it’s closer in size to the Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taos, Mazda CX-30 and Nissan Kicks. With small crossovers supplanting compact sedans for many family buyers, Chevrolet cast a wide net with the Trailblazer’s design. There’s also more rear legroom in this version than in the old midsize Trailblazer, though slightly less than Chevy’s one-size-larger Equinox. ![]() It’s much bigger, and nicer, inside than the departed Trax it replaced, and gets better gas mileage too. The Trailblazer is small, just 173.7 inches long, but buyers will be surprised to find that it excels on space efficiency and practicality. After running alongside the old, dated Trax for the past two years, the Trailblazer becomes Chevy’s smallest SUV for 2023.Ĭhevrolet has made no real changes for 2023 apart from the addition of some new colors: Fountain Blue, Nitro Yellow Metallic and Sterling Gray Metallic and an optional pearl white roof color. Times change, and while Chevy still builds a midsize Blazer (sans Trail), the Trailblazer arrived in 2021 to take on a new generation of tiny crossovers. In the 2000s, the Trailblazer was a biggish midsize model often powered by a beefy V8, while this new one is a subcompact crossover with a tiny three-cylinder engine. If you haven’t bought an SUV in a long time, the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer will come as a shock.
